Robbed of a Childhood

Robbed of a Childhood

Product Information

For Rob and his siblings, family life began in Lower Hutt but their childhood was at best unpleasant, at worst, dictated by a home-life of hostility and neglect. His young parents would prefer to buy a stereo rather than clothe and feed their children, and with the full knowledge of his mother, Rob was his father's punching bag. Holidays were a nightmare as he, and then his brother were sent away to a man they called their 'Unce". Repeatedly raped by him, Rob sadly learns his sister has not fared any better at home with their father.

When he married in 1992, he felt he could finally put his past to rest - a chance to begin a family of his own. Instead his parents continued their relentless hold on him insisting he remain in the family home even after his marriage.

With the birth of his first child, Rob realises he must leave Wellington and then New Zealand to end this tragic and destructive cycle. Now in his thirties and drug free, Rob realised he had to confront the man who called himself his father.
